“When we feel a void within ourselves, we’re compelled to fill it. We all fill that void with something different, whatever it is we believe will make us feel whole again. I fill that void with toys.” When I step foot in a store, doesn’t matter which one, first place I go, toys. I’m essentially a 36 year old child, and I wouldn’t want to be anything else. Unless, can I be a 36 year old child with the physique of a He-Man figure? No? Okay, well, I’ll take what I can get. Come on, let’s all pile into the Party Wagon and find us some plastic treasures. Journey with me as we head out into the wild and hunt down action figures to mount on our walls and line our shelves. First, let’s clear some shelves so we actually have somewhere to put our newly discovered treasures. No room? What do you mean I have no more room? Oh come on, are you serious? Okay, fine, journey with me as we clear some space by selling toys we no longer want, that’s crazy, we want them all, then go out into the wild and hunt down deals like they’re big game, and sell the stuff we have no interest in to pay for the toys we actually keep. There, happy? That about sums it up. This was my 2019, hitting up every yard sale, thrift store, flea market and toy show I could, as many times as I could, not to mention the toy department of every store I walked into. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find cool toys in Maine? Yeah, it’s the equivalent of a comic book nerd trying to lose his virginity, before graduating high school. Somehow, I managed to do it. The cool toys part, not the virginity thing, just to be clear. I mean, whoa, did you see that cover? And that’s just the half. This is my year collecting toys. |
